Welcome back athletes, parents and a special welcome to new athletes to the 2018/2019 season at Kings Langley Little Athletics Centre.
The new season of athletics is upon us again and I am looking forward to seeing everybody down at the track once again.
I would like to give you a quick run down on myself. I am an ex-athlete of the former Lalor Park Little Athletics Centre, now known as Kings Langley Little Athletics Centre (KLLAC). I started athletics when I was 12 and competed through to Under 15s. I am very passionate about athletics and have been involved ever since, with two children of my own now competing at the Centre. I have been President of KLLAC for the past three years and in this time the Committee and I have worked to strengthen the Centre, and I thank everybody for their help along the way.
We are proud to announce a number of improvements to the Centre for the coming season. We are upgrading our uniform to a new, more modern style which was on exhibition at the AGM earlier this year. As well as looking fantastic, the new uniforms are manufactured by a different method which gives us much more flexibility around re-ordering stock.
As of the start of the 2018/19 season, the new uniform will replace the former uniform. In order to ensure that our athletes are not disadvantaged by the change, we successfully applied for a Office of Sport – Local Sports Grant to subsidise the cost of transitioning to the new uniform. All returning athletes who were registered with KLLAC in the 2017/18 season will receive a new uniform free of charge. This subsidy is available for athletes returning in the 2018/19 season only.
Other improvements include new track equipment, funded through a Community Building Fund Grant. We have new timing gates for our 200m/400m circular track. The timing gates come with two large timing clocks which will be set up on the track, enabling us to see athletes’ times as they finish. You will also be able to log into ResultsHQ to view the results of each event on the night.
Following the success of our inaugural Multi Event Carnival last year, we will again host a Multi Event day, early in the season. Other key events through the season will be our medals night and pentathlon night.
An important part of the success of our Centre is our volunteers, who dedicate their time each and every week throughout the season to enable our children to compete. We are always looking for helpers to set up the field each week, pack up, run the BBQ, assist with Age Managing and provide officials or other helpers at events. We hope to be able to share the workload by using rosters this season.
For those enthusiastic helpers, we can help you obtain training and coaching in track and field events, from introductory up to higher levels. It is a rewarding experience that you will enjoy and will be appreciated not only by our Committee and the Centre athletes but your children as well.
I would like to take the opportunity to welcome back and thank all of our sponsors who have kindly agreed to be associated with our Centre. I hope that your experience with our Centre continues to be beneficial and a memorable one.
I would also encourage any business owners within the Centre to consider becoming a sponsor. All money raised through sponsorship directly assists the athletes through upgrades in equipment, subsidies to attend key events, trophies and the like. It is also a great way of promoting your business through our Centre, through our weekly announcements and direct promotion on signs displayed around the grounds each Friday and through our website and social media. If you are interested in sponsoring KLLAC, don’t hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In closing, I would like to thank all of the Committee members for volunteering their time to make our Centre a great one.
Finally to all of our athletes, have a fantastic season, try your best, have fun while competing and never give up. Try to make it a memorable season at Kings Langley Little Athletics Centre!
